Like most ambitious youth aspiring for a good career and willing to leave the comfort of their homes, Mr. Sugathan Janardhanan, left his native place Trivandrum,in Kerala, and went to Mumbai in the early '70's, in search of a career. Mumbai was by default the stepping-stone to the Gulf for most Indians in those days.

It encompassed the strictly utilitarian - chairs, tables and bed - furnishings and the ornamental or ceremonial - giltwood pier tables and pier glasses, thrones and State beds. The Office of the Great Wardrobe controlled the supply of such furnishings, which were regularly refurbished or replaced.
